old docs
The old wiki doc for debian (out-of-date) is http://yakko.cs.wmich.edu/gasiorek/wiki/index.php/DebianInstall

gmime2.1
I did have
$ apt-get -b source gmime2.1 # dpkg -i libgmime2.1*.deb
Unfortunately the build process doesn't copy across the binding DLL (although it does build it), so the more convoluted build procedure is necessary for now. See http://bugs.debian.org/290674 -- Jon

plans for this page
I still have grandious plans for this page, so here's what I've got in mind.
- the original big apt-get line included some packages that weren't necessary. Some for evolution integration (the article states however that this guide will not give you that), some which are pulled in by other packages on the list, others simply not necessary. I'd like to tabulate the list of packages to install and seperate them into build dependencies and run dependencies. Reason for distinction? Once you're done, you can remove the build dependency packages (which sum to at least 50MB unpacked).
- along similar lines it should be noted that docbook-utils is a build-dep for gmime2.1 and not beagle.
- some details about getting inotify into debian kernels nicely (personally I used the kernel.org sources so I can't speak from experience yet, although I plan to test-drive this on a fresh debian on my parent's laptop so I can see which patches apply cleanly there).
- quick note : inotify-0.22-rml-2.6.11-1.patch applies cleanly to kernel-source-2.6.11 (2.6.11-5)
- getting evolution integration working
- add yours here!
